Tudo o que resta da igreja original da Nossa Senhora da Conceição, do século XV, é o portal, uma gárgula e um contraforte góticos, o resto terá sido reconstruído nos séculos XVIII e XIX. A mistura de estilos arquitetónicos do austero Colégio dos Jesuítas deve-se também às sucessivas obras de reconstrução ao longo dos séculos, mas este abriga a maior igreja do Algarve e também merece uma visita. Muitos locais de interesse histórico que dão testemunho da presença das antigas populações do Algarve podem ser encontrados um pouco mais longe. O sítio arqueológico da Abicada contém vestígios de vilas romanas dos séculos I e IV, existe um importante cemitério do período Neolítico/Calcolítico em Alcalar e a arquitetura mourisca das capelas de São João e de São Pedro evoca os locais sagrados onde os Muçulmanos enterravam os seus ascetas religiosos – os marabus.
Os amantes do golfe têm vários campos à disposição, incluindo o Alto Golf & Country Club, o campo do Morgado e os famosos campos do Penina Championship.
